I haven’t done a Waiting on Wednesday in a while so I thought I’d try and get back into it!

This week I’m waiting on Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amy Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, and I am so excited for its release:

UK Release Date: 20th October 2016

I absolutely adored Illuminae. I was hesitant about it at first because of its unique format, but I found that it only enhanced the novel and my enjoyment. The book made me laugh and cry in equal measure, and it was a mashup of so many different genres; your typical Sci-Fi set in space, Horror, Action, Thriller, Drama. It had everything you could possibly want in a book and more. I’m still in awe of it.

I could not be more excited for the release of Gemina as a result. I’m looking forward to finding out what happens next and meeting new characters. Hopefully it’s just as good as its predecessor and, if you haven’t read Illuminae yet, do it now! I can’t recommend it enough.

Synopsis for Gemina:

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

Once again told through a compelling dossier of emails, IMs, classified files, transcripts, and schematics, Gemina raises the stakes of the Illuminae Files, hurling readers into an enthralling new story that will leave them breathless.

  1. I’m excited for this one too, which is odd because I haven’t even read Illuminae yet. I’ve heard such wonderful things about this series, so I’m trying to hold off until the full series is available before I binge read it. I’m not sure I’ll succeed though 🙂

  2. I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK! Illuminae was definitely one of my favourite reads last year, so I am really excited for the second book. Plus, Marie Lu has apparently done illustrations throughout the book as well, so that is going to be incredible to see! 🙂

  3. I love this series so much and I’m so excited for this book to come out! I really love that it’s a second set of characters the story focuses on but it incorporates the first books story line & characters because I really want to know what happens with them next.

    It comes out so soon!

      • I actually like the style of writing when a series is focused on two new characters but it follows the storyline of the original characters. I’ll be excited to see these new characters’ stories, but because they tie in to Kady and Ezra’s story it’ll be good!

  4. YESSSSS. Every time I log into Amazon I see at the top of the page “Pending Shipments”. I am counting down the days for this book to appear at my doorstep. I ADORED Illuminae! If you are interested in hearing my opinions: http://deathbytsundoku.com/wordpress/illuminae/

Did you write a review of Illuminae? In fact, I’d love to read anyone’s reviews– I’m sooo curious to hear about what people loved. I feel like everyone I’ve spoken to adored something different.
